At least respect the office
What this country needs is for all of its citizens to have a little respect — respect for the opinions of others, respect for one’s chosen faith, respect for how people choose to live their lives, respect for traditional American standards, respect for political views and so on.
If it is too difficult for someone to respect a politician, we should still respect the office, because the office represents our democracy.
It was beyond shocking to hear Joe Wilson, a fifth-term U.S. Congressman, yell out in the middle of a presidential speech that the President of the United States was a liar. Where was his head?
Wilson later said his emotions got the best of him.
My god, man, get a hold of yourself. And some people think women are too emotional to lead.
Wilson was reprimanded by the House and he has apologized to the President. But he then uses the attention from his crass outburst to rally support, that is, contributions. He has been in demand for TV news shows and fundraisers. Hey, Joe, where’s the book?
Wasn’t there a time in this country when Cong. Joe Wilson would have been shunned by his colleagues for a time, and embarrassed himself by his actions?
